Rebuilding a Family Law Firm's Google Presence: From Thin Authority to 420 Phone Leads
PROJECT SUMMARY
A family law firm in North Carolina’s Raleigh–Durham Triangle competes in one of the Southeast’s most crowded legal markets, and its Google presence wasn’t winning it. Working through the firm’s agency, white-label partner Second Click Media, Pronto rebuilt that presence end to end: Google My Business management, monthly link building, keyword-driven blog writing, and technical on-page SEO.
In under a year the profile produced 420 tracked phone leads, Domain Rating climbed from 11 to 19, referring domains grew 152%, and the firm’s content earned 72 citations in Google’s AI Overviews — until the firm, out of capacity, began hiring more attorneys.
Company Background
The client is a family law firm in the Raleigh–Durham Triangle, serving families across Cary, Apex, Raleigh, Durham, and greater Wake County. Its core practice is family law, divorce, custody, support, property division, with a secondary estate-planning line. In its market, nearly 200 firms compete for the same local searches.
Pronto delivered this campaign as the white-label search marketing team behind the firm’s agency, Second Click Media, a Pronto partner since June 2023.
Strong Firm, Weak Google Presence
The firm had the practice and the reputation. What it didn’t have was the Google presence to match that, especially in the three places Triangle families actually look.
Outgunned on Authority
The firm’s site sat at Domain Rating 11 on 251 referring domains, a fraction of the authority its established competitors brought to every high-intent search. For competitive terms like “divorce attorney,” that gap decides who gets found.
A Google Profile Pointed at the Wrong Practice
Its Google My Business profile, the single biggest driver of law-firm phone calls, had drifted toward the secondary estate-planning practice. The family-law searches that actually sign clients were underworked, and the firm was entirely absent from Google’s AI Overviews, the AI answers that increasingly sit on top of those searches.
No Way to Measure What Worked
Nothing connected the firm’s Google presence to the phone ringing: no call tracking on the profile, no source attribution on inbound calls, no way to tell which searches produced which inquiries.
Rebuilding the Firm's Google Presence, End to End
Beginning in August 2025, Pronto ran four workstreams in concert under the agency’s brand, the model Second Click Media describes publicly:
“I use Pronto for SEO support for all my SEO clients... blogging, city landing pages, technical SEO audits.”
Google My Business Management: Rebuilding the Lead Engine
The profile is where Triangle families choose a lawyer, so it got the deepest work. Pronto’s audit found its strongest signals pointing at estate planning, so we executed a strategic keyword refocus around the searches that sign family-law clients (“family law attorney,” “divorce lawyer,” and their city variants), re-optimizing the profile’s categories, services, and business description to match.
From there, management ran on a recurring cadence: a client-approved GBP post calendar, video content published to the profile, and monthly performance reporting back through the agency. And because a profile is only provable if its calls are counted, we wired it to a call-tracking platform that records every inbound call, attributes it to the profile, and scores it for quality. That one integration turned Google from a black box into the firm’s most measurable lead source.
Monthly Link Building
A recurring link building campaign rebuilt the off-site authority the firm was missing, the engine behind the Domain Rating and referring-domain growth.
Blog Writing That Answers Real Family-Law Questions
Expanded on the strength of an early audit, the content program targeted the questions North Carolina families actually search: community property, child support, alimony, grandparents’ rights. Those articles became the firm’s AI Overview winners.
Technical Audit and Location Pages
A Website SEO Technical Audit drove on-page and location-page optimization across Cary, Apex, Raleigh, and Garner, sharpening relevance for the practice-area-plus-city searches that decide local legal work.
The Phone Rings, and Now It's Measured
In under a year, the four workstreams compounded, ending in the metric that matters to a law firm: signed-client inquiries.
Authority and Links
Domain Rating climbed from 11 to 19. Referring domains grew from 251 to 633, up 152%, accelerating sharply from May 2026 as the link-building campaign matured.
Off-site authority growth across the campaign, as measured in Ahrefs.
Breaking Into Google’s AI Overviews
At launch, the firm appeared in no AI Overviews. By July 2026 it was cited in 72, the majority at position #1, for exactly the questions its future clients ask: “is North Carolina a community property state,” “how much is child support in NC,” “grandparents’ rights in NC.” Most of those terms didn’t rank at all a year earlier.

Lead Generation: 420 Phone Leads
The rebuilt profile became the firm’s largest measured lead source: 420 tracked phone calls, every one from the Google My Business profile. Volume peaked at 71 in January and the firm’s intake team answered roughly 95% of calls. The keyword refocus showed up in quality, too: in June, a lower-volume month, the firm reported a record number of new clients on what it described as higher-quality leads.
WhatConverts: 420 tracked Google My Business profile phone leads, Nov 2025 – Jul 13, 2026.
Counting only unique callers, excluding an estimated spam share, and applying a 10% call-to-client rate, below every published family-law benchmark, at a $3,500 average North Carolina matter value, those calls represent roughly $100,000 in estimated pipeline revenue.
Too Busy to Take New Clients
The clearest outcome isn’t in a dashboard. In Erin’s words:
“One of my law-firm clients has had a 38% increase in organic traffic in 60 days. Since we started working with them, their team can't take on any more clients right now, so they're hiring more attorneys. A lot of that goes to Pronto.”
By the firm’s own intake count, it signed 30% more new clients this past quarter than in the same quarter last year.
A firm hiring attorneys to keep up with inquiries is the result every legal marketing program promises; this one got there in under a year. And it happened without the firm ever seeing Pronto. We delivered the whole engagement behind its agency, Second Click Media, which now runs this playbook across its roster.
🔍 Data Context and Methodology:
To ensure full transparency, the metrics and projections in this case study are drawn from direct platform data and published market benchmarks.
Tracking Platforms: Authority and ranking data from Ahrefs; organic traffic from Google Search Console; leads from WhatConverts via the firm’s Google My Business call tracking. Campaign window: August 2025 through July 2026 (call
tracking live from November 2025).
Attribution Boundary: All lead results are GBP organic calls; no paid campaigns
ran under this engagement. AI Overview and traffic gains are visibility outcomes,
not a lead-attribution claim.
Pipeline Revenue Calculation: The 420 tracked calls correspond to roughly 335 unique callers; excluding an estimated 15% spam and robocall share leaves 285 genuine inquiries. Applying a 10% call-to-retained-client rate, conservative
against published family-law benchmarks of 14–30%, at a $3,500 average North Carolina family-law matter value yields over $100,000 in estimated pipeline revenue.
