Modernizing a Complex Multisite Website After a Rebranding Initiative
Background
SHARE Cancer Support is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and sustaining a supportive network and community of women affected by breast, ovarian, uterine, and metastatic breast cancer.
Migrating a large amount of content into a well-structured new website
Hard to Navigate the Website & Find Content
Their old website structure struggled to accommodate their growing needs for event management, educational resources, and community engagement across different cancer types.
One of the main reasons for the website rebuild was that it had become particularly difficult to search and navigate through a collection of over 300 videos.
Migrating Unstructured Video Data
One of the most significant challenges was having to migrate 300+ videos that were embedded and edited within a single HTML page structure. Since the content was mixed together in an unstructured format, exporting and organizing the data was complex.
Rebranding the Company
SHARE Cancer Support underwent a comprehensive rebranding initiative that necessitated a complete overhaul of their digital presence. Their existing website no longer reflected their evolved mission and expanded services across multiple cancer communities.
Search Engine Optimization
SHARE’s previous website structure created significant SEO challenges, with content for different cancer types competing for visibility in search rankings. They needed to maintain and improve their hard-earned search rankings during the transition, especially considering the complexity of managing SEO across multiple interconnected sites.
SEO-Reasearched, New Website Navigational Structure and Dynamic Event Management
Pronto Marketing developed a sophisticated multisite architecture that balanced independence with cohesion.
"Our project lead, Pam, was dedicated, highly organized and insightful."
While the new brand colors and navigation concept were initially drawn up by SHARE’s branding agency, the Pronto Website Production team made several adjustments to improve SEO and ensure the website effectively presented the content the client was looking for in terms of UX/UI experience.
Cohesive user experience for varied services and a multi-site structure
- Created independent navigation systems for each cancer type while maintaining a consistent brand identity
- Implemented an intuitive cross-site navigation system allowing visitors to easily access resources across different cancer communities
- Developed a unified design language that adapted to each cancer type’s specific needs while preserving SHARE’s overall brand integrity
Enhanced UI/UX with Unique Cancer Type Templates
- Implemented a distinct color scheme for each cancer type template.
- Designed customized headers with unique menus and navigation links for each cancer type and their related sub-pages.
Dynamic Management of In-Person Events & Webinars
- Live webinars and support group events are updated quarterly, requiring them to be dynamically sorted by date.
- Deployed a robust events calendar plugin supporting both virtual and in-person events.
- Implemented a sorting functionality which allows for manual sorting events when necessary.
- Automatic archiving of past programs helps keep the site fresh and uncluttered.
Effective Searchability for a Library of 300 Videos
- Implemented a search function and a video tagging system, allowing users to easily find relevant content.
- Streamlined the structure by organizing all videos under a single parent page, replacing the previous setup where each video was standing alone.
Better Content Management with Custom Post Types
- For Staff Directory: Eliminated the need to create 30+ individual Elementor popups, reducing editing time and improving efficiency.
- For Podcasts: Enabled website managers to easily add podcast embed codes through structured fields and removed the need for manually creating and updating HTML pages every time a new podcast was added.
- For an Announcement Bar: Made it easy to update without modifying templates manually.
"The Pronto team was lovely to work with as they showed genuine care and interest in showcasing our mission. They collaborated with us throughout the process to build a comprehensive website that matched our vision and perfectly represents the various cancer communities we serve. The team helped us break down this very large project and made the process feel manageable and organized."
The new website platform positions SHARE Cancer Support for continued growth, with the flexibility to add new cancer support communities and programs while maintaining their high standards for user experience and community engagement.
